There is finally a ray of hope on the horizon. Donald Trump has been defeated by Joe Biden; despite his corrupt efforts to keep it from happening. All of Trump's bogus attempts were done at the expense of the American people. In the annuals of history he will go down as the as the most shameless, despicable, and reprehensible president in American. The past four years has been very dark for America, and Donald Trump has nearly brought our nation to brink of destruction.
I can’t think of a better man to bring America back together than Joe Biden. He has always been willing to work with both parties; although he is going to find the Republican Senate has mutated into an unrecognizable life form. Sadly, I dare say Joe Biden is going to find a corrupt Republican Senate led by Mitch McConnell that considers itself beyond reproach and scrutiny. President Elect Biden has his work cut out for him.
Donald Trump has already stated he will file numerous lawsuits with no merit contesting the election results. Trump has redefined poor looser to a whole new level. His desperate and needy attempts to undermine the election will go down in history as shameless byword. In all of my lifetime, I have never witnessed such a pathetic display of manipulation and corruption in any presidential election. Every American today should be outraged over the Trump administration efforts to render our votes null and void. It is very unlikely they will succeed, but there is no low the Trump Administration will not resort to.
But today is a day of celebration! It is a day to hope once again that our democracy has prevailed - and will survive. It is a day to acknowledge that good still can prevail over evil. It is day to finally hope America will soon be provided with the resources and leadership we need to address the coronavirus pandemic on a national level. It is a day to begin repairing the deep racial animus and divisions among the American people resulting from Donald Trump’s deliberate use of hate rhetoric.
It feels reminiscent of Christmas Day to me, and I keep thinking of the song I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The last two verses are my favorite; it laments of the hatred in this world, but reminds us there is a God we often forget is watching. I know America has a long way to go in repairing the hate birthed out of the Trump administration - but once again, there is hope.
